Leon Haffner

Leon Haffner was born in Paris in 1881.

When he was a boy, he discovered his passion at Le Havre while he spent his holidays with cousins. Attracted by drawing, very observant , boats became his best inspiration.

A drawing competition organized by the French Maritime League in 1907 , made him became famous. He obtained the second prize. He was appointed Painter of the Navy in 1918.

Leon Haffner excels in marine structures’ illustration. He produced oils , but mostly gouaches , drawings , many stencils, illustrations countless books . He also carried out many postcards of ships, and illustrated a dozen books about french maritime history.

He died in 1972.
