Jean-Louis-Marcel Cosson

 

he was a French impressionist born in Bordeaux in 1878. Just like his muse, Degas, he loved to depict subjects from the theatre, the ballet and from the world of horse racing. His work was also represented at the Salon de la Nationale and the Tuileries (Paris, France).

Cosson became popular thanks to his scenes of dancers, the theatre, bars, interiors and also flowers, but he is specially known for his composition of the human figure and his observation of all its different facets in different surroundings and positions. He used to paint with mediums such as oils, gouache, watercolors and drawings.

He was a member of the Sociétaire des Artistes Français, receiving an honorable mention in 1901 and a third medal in 1911.

Cosson was a prolific artist and his work is now highly sought after in private collections and through European auctions.
